Kind Castle Expands All Over Colorado

You might have read our article in the Craig Press this summer that announced the opening of Kind Castle’s newest (3rd) location and Craig’s fourth marijuana dispensary. We’re excited to announce that we have another store opening before the end of this year and big plans for 2022.

Kind Castle started with its flagship location in 2016 as the first approved retail marijuana dispensary in the Town of Parachute, serving Grand Junction and the Western Slope area. The marijuana stores that opened in Parachute really gave the town a much-needed boost in tax revenue, as reported in this article from the Aspen Daily News. In August of 2019, due to strong customer demand, Kind Castle decided to expand its retail presence throughout Colorado – and fast. Kind Castle opened its 2nd retail marijuana dispensary in the Town of Nederland in July 2020, as mentioned in this article by the Mountain Ear newspaper.

Although over the past 2 years Kind Castle has secured 11 licensed retail cannabis stores, with many surrounding the Grand Junction area and a total of 9 of those stores in Western Colorado, it’s come with many challenges along the way. For many years, Kind Castle has been seeking a recreational cannabis dispensary in Glenwood Springs (as mentioned in this 2016 article) however several proposed recreational cannabis stores have been denied by the Glenwood Springs City Council, as referenced in this article by the Post Independent which ended with Kind Castle appealing that decision in district court as described in this article.

Glenwood Springs, being known for the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool and Iron Mountain Hot Springs, is a top Colorado vacation destination and an area highly desired by Kind Castle to open a cannabis store. The city recently denied Kind Castle’s 4th attempt at getting a retail marijuana store license at 2114 Grand Avenue, which was the 2nd application submitted for that location. Kind Castle fixed all of the concerns city council had with this location over the course of a year and then council denied its application again.

But Kind Castle proposed another recreational cannabis dispensary in the rear area of the Glenwood Meadows Plaza with top retailers such as Target and Petsmart in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Glenwood Springs had detailed discussions and assessed limiting any new marijuana stores in the city, while Kind Castle was pursuing its initial special use permit for a retail marijuana store, before moving forward to its public hearings for its marijuana business license, as reported in this article by the Post Independent. Kind Castle was finally approved for its new, large retail marijuana dispensary in the Glenwood Meadows Plaza located at 150 Wulfsohn Road, as reported in this article by the Post Independent. Kind Castle will be the only marijuana retail store to operate in the Glenwood Meadows Plaza area.

As Kind Castle’s additional stores open, this puts the Kind Castle as the largest marijuana retailer in Western Colorado. We are proud to be the Winner of 2019, 2020 & 2021 Weedmaps ‘Best Dispensary’ Award, and Winner of ‘Best Dispensary Design in the US’ Award from LeafBuyer. We are pleased to announce the opening of three more recreational marijuana stores in the very near future and five more dispensaries along the Western Slope including Grand Junction to open throughout 2022.

The City of Grand Junction is preparing to begin licensing cannabis dispensaries across the city with a total of 10 dispensaries to be permitted by city council, as reported in this article regarding recent cannabis licensing workshops to determine how many marijuana dispensary licenses they will issue. Many other retail marijuana store operators in the Grand Junction area will be pursuing a retail marijuana store license and competing against Kind Castle in Grand Junction. The city has decided that all 10 of the Grand Junction cannabis store licenses will be issued through a merit-based lottery system. Utah residents visiting Colorado will now reach marijuana dispensaries a bit sooner as they cross state lines into Colorado and reach Grand Junction.  This article in the Grand Junction Sentinel newspaper provides a summary of the recent meeting on preparations to license recreational cannabis dispensaries in the City of Grand Junction.

  • Ridgway (January 2022)
  • Glenwood Springs (March 2022)

Last year, Kind Castle submitted a retail marijuana store application for a proposed site in Colona in Ouray County. However suddenly, the day before the public hearing, the landlord went against the agreement with Kind Castle and revoked his consent for Kind Castle’s application, therefore forcing Kind Castle to withdraw its retail marijuana dispensary application. The next day, Kind Castle quickly acquired another commercial property across the highway from its first Colona store. Ouray County commissioners, being good friends with the landlord of Kind Castle’s first Colona store, denied Kind Castle’s retail marijuana business license on vague grounds which did not hold any merit, as mentioned in this article. Fast forward 9 months later, Kind Castle was in the right place at the right time when a recreational marijuana store license became available in the beautiful Town of Ridgway, Ouray County. Kind Castle quickly applied and was approved to open a large retail marijuana dispensary located at 102 Campbell Lane in the heart of Ridgway.

Kind Castle’s additional marijuana stores to open in 2022:

  • Durango (license approved)
  • Grand Junction (approval pending)
  • Gunnison (license approved)
  • Silverton (license approved)
  • Pagosa Springs (approval pending)

As reported in this article by the Gunnison Country Times, Kind Castle is preparing to open a recreational cannabis superstore in the City of Gunnison. Gunnison residents and visitors will be pleased to look forward to a new cannabis retailer offering much higher quality cannabis products at lower prices.

The Kind Castle Difference

Since the state of Colorado began licensing marijuana retail stores in 2014, hundreds of dispensaries have popped up. But none stack up to the quality practices and standards of Kind Castle.

We pride ourselves on having all the best growers under one roof – or one castle, in our case. There’s a lot of stores with an unimpressive selection of old, dry cannabis products especially flower, and you can see and smell that all their flower comes from the same grow facility. We have close relationships with the very best growers in Colorado, and our stores pull them together to create a place that has all the best products. In addition, we are passionate about organic practices, and we won’t bring on a partner that’s not fully organic. Our signs say organic for a reason, and we mean it. We are very thorough when it comes to screening growers for chemicals and not everyone in this industry can say the same. We’re very picky when it comes to our product because we want to provide our customers with the best Colorado has to offer.

That’s what you can look forward to from every cannabis store Kind Castle opens in Colorado.
